A Different Kind of Tired
Lately, I’ve been waking up exhausted. Not just tired—but that deep, bone-level fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix. You know the kind. You get a full night’s rest, eat fairly well, move your body when you can… and still, you feel drained.
For the longest time, I couldn’t figure out why. I kept asking myself what was missing—until I realized:
I had completely forgot to take care of myself.
Yes, I was functioning. Yes, I was showing up. But I wasn’t resting, resetting, or truly reconnecting. My body never fully let go. It felt like it was holding its breath, stuck in survival mode.
The Moment It Clicked
A while ago, I started seeing a practitioner who helps people regulate their nervous systems through somatic work—gentle breath, awareness, and movement practices. At first, it felt too subtle. Too quiet. But slowly, something shifted.
I felt more like myself again. I felt calm. Light. Clear.
And then—life got loud. The sessions stopped. The self-care faded. And that foggy, worn-down feeling returned.
One morning, I paused and said it out loud:
“I forgot to take care of myself.”
It wasn’t just a realization—it was a wake-up call.
A Checklist to Come Back to Me
I wouldn’t let my kids go without the basics. Yet I wasn’t holding myself to the same standard. That’s why I made a simple daily checklist—not to be productive, but to feel like me again.
🌸 My “Me Checklist”
☐ Morning breathwork or quiet stretch
☐ Drink water before coffee
☐ Eat energizing food
☐ Move gently for 10 minutes
☐ Take 5 minutes for stillness
☐ Journal just a few thoughts
☐ Step outside, even briefly
☐ Say no when I need to
☐ Rest—guilt-free
These tiny actions remind me that I deserve care too. And if you’ve forgotten to take care of yourself, you’re not alone.
Start Here, Start Small
You don’t need to change everything. You just need to come back to yourself. One small action. One calming breath. One tiny shift.
